It’s exceedingly rare to come across a century home of such high quality. The above ground living space is one of the largest in Riverdale and has been completely reimagined by a professional designer, 9 Withrow Avenue exudes both timeless sophistication and functionality. Meticulous care and craft is evident in every detail—from design touches that pay tribute to the history of the house to well-considered storage spaces—ensuring that your every day in this house is one of effortless luxury. The work, as they say, has been done. All you have to do is move in.
Main Floor
You get a sense of calm and light as soon as you step inside. Scandinavian styled, but Canadian made 7" white oak hardwood runs uninterrupted along the length of the house. And then there’s the 10-foot ceiling and large, light-giving windows.
What does all that space provide? A dining area that comfortably seats six, two large living areas and a masterpiece of a kitchen by Marana (think Hazelton Hotel) that'll be a joy to work and entertain in. It’s there that you notice the Valentino quartzite counters and seamless backsplash, 5 burner gas stove, and oversized waterfall island (not to mention the cabinet-integrated fridge and dishwasher), before your gaze is drawn to the back gardens through the family room — the perfect place to enjoy for your morning tea or an evening of entertaining.
Second Floor
A serene slumber awaits in three second-floor bedrooms. All three bedrooms are spacious and airy with plenty of closet space and natural light. These three bedrooms share a large bathroom with heated floors, double sink vanity, curbless glass enclosed shower and marble floors. The rear bedroom also has a closet that has been plumbed to house a second floor laundry.
Third Floor Principle Retreat
Ascend to the third level and envision your dream principal retreat perfectly nestled under exposed wooden beams and a sky high vaulted ceiling. There is a walkout to a large south facing deck with glass enclosed railing set among a green screen of treetops and birds-eye view of the garden below. The ensuite bathroom has heated floors and touch of hammam: Mutina Mews pigeon tiles in a soft Herringbone. The custom metal and glass shower is a showpiece and reveals the premium water fixtures. A deep soaker tub, double vanity and dressing room with custom built in closets complete this spa like sanctuary
Lower Level
At once cozy and kitted out, the lower level has ample ceiling height and features a generously proportioned family room, bathroom with glass enclosed shower, laundry and an eat-in kitchen.
A separate back entrance makes this a perfect apartment and in-law suite. For larger families, it’s easy to picture the downstairs unit functioning as a combination between a kids play area, gym, lounge or home office.
Outdoors
There’s plenty of contemporary curb appeal out front thanks to an attractively updated porch framed by a low-maintenance garden. The wood-fenced backyard offers privacy for family gatherings or cocktail parties under the stars. During the day reap the benefits of garden sown vegetables flanking both sides of the deep yard.
Parking
Withrow Avenue has about 25% fewer homes versus similar sized streets in the neighbourhood making street parking a simple task. Don't have a car? Broadview subway station is just a 15 minute walk.

Eat/Drink
Wynona / 819 Gerrard St E
Wynona is a lively and friendly Michelin rated neighborhood bistro. The open kitchen is the heartbeat of the place—snag a seat at one of the tables to watch the chefs at work. The young team is relaxed but efficient, and all guests are well looked after, with staff members happily recommending dishes or wines. Seasonality drives their selections, and the menu changes weekly. Clear Italian influences are evident across the menu. Case in point? Thin slices of capocollo ham, topped with pickled banana peppers and drizzled with sweet local honey is certainly a Med-minded opener, and a delicious one at that. You'll never go wrong with homemade pasta, perhaps lumache with sausage crumble, sugar snap peas and a dollop of creamy cheese.
RELAX
The Rooster Coffee House / 479 Broadview Ave
Packed to the high ceilings, it's full of people who treat it more like their living room than a cafe. Comfy leather chairs are rearranged at will into more suitable positions for chatting, surfing, or playing the board games casually strewn about on the vintage luggage that serves as coffee tables. Want to have an afternoon work meeting with some friends or colleagues? Pull up a chair at the huge rectangular table in the back. Stopping in for a quick cup on the way? Slide up to the bar seats at the window and gaze out over the park. The Rooster Coffee House sells it's own specialty roasts, done to order by the artists at Te Aro. Here you can get anything from a standard Americano or make choice from their selection of custom blends like Atomic Rooster or Bold Beaver. The modern-meets-vintage design gives Rooster an elegant but comfortable vibe. Cut glass chandeliers hang over the modern counter, and old serving silverware provide places for dirty spoons. The staff are incredibly friendly, taking special care to make each cup right, while chatting up the regulars who came in droves. The view from its windows offers a spectacular vista of the city and front row seats to some wonderful sunsets.
